A Brussels-based association, DME engages with policymakers and stakeholders in the audio and music sector to ensure the success of the whole industry, to the benefit of all actors involved, including creators and consumers. DME supports policies that provide a conducive environment for digital music services to grow and innovate. It follows policy and regulatory discussions that aim to enhance consumer choice, support investment in the European music sector and promote fair remuneration for creators. In July 2023, DME was granted an Observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), committing to the protection of copyright and intellectual property in the digital music sector.

 

WHY WAS DME CREATED? 

DME was created in November 2017 to fill a gap where there was no other organisation effectively representing the interests of Europe’s music digital companies. DME provides its members with the platform to engage with European policymakers as the EU is developing a range of policies that impact the digital music industry. DME promotes global leadership and growth of the sector while giving a voice to smaller companies and start-ups that often lack the resources to monitor EU policy developments affecting their businesses and engage with decision-makers.

 

WHAT ARE DME’s OBJECTIVES?

DME’s primary objective is to promote the global leadership of European innovators in digital music and its members are eager to serve as an example for European entrepreneurs and policymakers.

DME aims to support policies that promote fair competition and innovation for digital music services and to advocate for policy and regulatory solutions that both enhance the consumer music experience and support investment and growth, across Europe and globally, of the digital music sector.

Founded in 2004 and based in Luxembourg, Jamendo was the first online platform to legally share music from independent creators under Creative Commons licenses. On Jamendo Music, users can enjoy a wide catalogue of more than 800,000 tracks shared by 65,000 artists.

Qobuz

Qobuz is an online music platform that offers streaming subscriptions and instant downloads.
